Happy Friday!

Today's been a great day! We went back to the specialist this morning and my amniotic fluid was up to a 9!! That's huge for me! And it was all done without an IV. Granted I've been chugging water like a crazy person & got up an hour and half early to drink water before the scan - but needless to say we're beyond thrilled!

Jack is growing well - he's up to 2 pounds 3 ounces. He was 1 pound 10 ounces two weeks ago when we got to the hospital. He was sleeping during the scan and we got to see him yawn. The blood vessels are still sitting right by my cervix, so no changes on that condition, but we weren't really expecting any.

Then we got to move rooms (again), but now we're back in a room that has a couch for Justin to sleep on instead of the pullout chair. It's really the little things these days.

 While my mom moved rooms, Justin & my dad ventured to Nebraska Furniture Mart to buy nursery furniture for Jack. So by next Thursday the room will have a crib & a dresser, with a rocker to follow in September!

So all in all, today has been a very good day. I'm ecstatic to be able to remain IV free & stick to twice a day monitoring (as opposed to continuous) for at least a little bit longer. I'll keep chugging water (5.5 liters/day seems to be the magic amount).

Thanks for all the prayers! We'd like as many uneventful days as possible now and pray that the fluid will stay up on its own and Jack will continue to grow bigger.

One day at a time

Today's lesson was all about what it means to take things one day at a time. Last night during my twice daily monitoring (looking at Jack's heart & for contractions), my nurse was concerned that, while nothing looked bad, it didn't look as good as it had. She called my doctor who had me start procardia (medicine to prevent contractions) and kept me on the monitor for an additional hour until the nurses felt that things were looking better. This morning during monitoring, the nurse was still unhappy with what she was seeing and my doctor came up to do an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed that Jack was fine, but the amniotic fluid was low. She had me start on an IV, keep the monitoring on all day and she would be back in the evening for a 2nd ultrasound. 27 weeks & the continued fluid saga

Our journey continues! We've made it to the 27 week mark and tomorrow will be 2 weeks in the hospital. We're thankful for every day that we make it because that means more time to develop for Jack. At my last update, my amniotic fluid index had increased to an 8 Monday morning. We went back for a scan Tuesday morning and the fluid was at a 7.8. The specialist wanted to see me again Wednesday morning to see if the fluids could maintain without the IV. (I've been off the IV since Monday morning). This morning we went back to the specialist for a scan and the fluid was at a 6.5. Anything above 5 keeps us out of the "danger zone", but the downward trend is not what we want to see. For now, I'm still off the IV but keeping track of my water intake. We'll also keep monitoring Jack twice a day to make sure he's looking good. Good news!

It was a pretty long weekend having to be hooked up to the monitors and IV continuously. Thankfully we had lots of visitors to help pass the time. We just finished meeting with the specialist and the amniotic fluid levels DOUBLED from Friday morning! The goal is to be above a 5 and we went from a 4 to an 8! The specialist said I could go off the monitors (I'll still be monitored twice a day) and off the IV and that we could move back to antepartum (out of labor & delivery). He'll scan me again tomorrow morning to see if the levels can maintain without the IV. We are both feeling so relieved and excited with this news! Jack continues to look great in the scans and I'm ecstatic to be off the monitors for a bit. The next goal is to get the levels to maintain above a 5 without an IV going!
